AIR HYGIENE TECHNICIAN COURSE OVERVIEW
The BESA Air Hygiene Technician course consists of theory and practical activities, and the delegates will be assessed on both.
The theory and practical exercises include:
- Safe working practices
- The principles of general ventilation ductwork and AHU maintenance
- Planning and preparing the work location
- Cleaning of general ventilation systems and associated components
- Working sustainably
- Pre- and post-clean sampling (microbial and dust) and reporting
ON COMPLETION OF THE COURSE, DELEGATES WILL:
- Understand health, safety and environmental issues within the workplace
- Appreciate the importance of sustainable working
- Understand the principles of general ventilation systems and components
- Know how to prepare the work location for cleaning activities
- Select the correct materials, tools and equipment for work
- Have the ability to insert suitable access panels
- Have the ability to safely carry out the correct cleaning methods
- Solve problems within their responsibility and others under their control
- Appreciate the importance of leaving the work area clean and tidy
- Understand and carry out pre- and post-clean testing and reporting
- Appreciate the commercial implications of actions

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
For all BESA training, it is a pre-requisite that all attendees hold a relevant health and safety qualification. BESA’s list of acceptable qualifications is as follows:
- BESA Academy Online Health Safety Environment test certificate
- CITB Health, Safety and Environment test certificate (for operatives)
- Client Contractors National Safety Group (CCNSG) two-day Safety Passport Scheme course
- CITB Supervisory Site Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) course
- National Examination Board of Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) Construction Certificate (NOT the General Certificate)
- Institute of Safety & Health (IOSH) Managing Safely
- CITB Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) course
COURSE DURATION
5 days
FINAL ASSESSMENT
The Air Hygiene Technician Course is assessed through a multiple-choice question paper and practical and professional discussion.
